1 Rig Veda
The Rig Veda is made up of 10 Mandala and there were 10 priestly families who wrote this scripture as follows:
1) Kanvas
2) Angirases
3) Agastyas
4) Grtsamadas
5) Visvamitras
6) Atris
7) Vasisthas
8) Kasyapas
9) Bharatas
10) Bhrgus
2 Yajur Veda
The Yajur Veda has two major recensions: the Sukla (White) Yajurveda (Yajasa-neyi) Samhita of which the Madhyandina is a popular recension and the Krsna (Black) Yajurveda (Taittriya) Samhita. This Veda is made up of 6 Kandhas (Segments) with each of these having 5 to 11 Prapathakas (similar to Chapters) for a total of 44 Adhyayas (Chapters):

Kandha 2 (6 Prapathakas/Adhyayas)
Kandha 3 (5 Prapathakas/Adhyayas)
Kandha 4 (7 Prapathakas/Adhyayas)

3 Sama Veda
In addition to the traditional Sama Veda Samhita hierarchical organization presented here of Books, Sections, Chapters and Decades, the following overview summarizes the numbering to allow the reader to search for a particular Mantra.
Sama Veda has 1875 [1800?] Mantras total:
- Poorvarchik - 6 chapters with 650 mantras
- Uttararchik - 21 chapters with 1225 mantras)
4 Atharva Veda
This Veda contains at least 20 Kandhas (Chapters) with each containing anywhere from a few to hundreds of Suktas (Hymns). The total number of hymns in this Veda may be as much as 12,300. This 12,300 number is based on over 6000 hymns from the Shaunakiya Atharvaveda Samhita edition and another 3500 hymns from the Paippalada Atharvaveda Samhita edition PLUS another 2500 from the 5 Kalpas (500 from each) of the Atharvaveda.
According to the Atharvana-Charanavyuha of Atharvan-Parisishta, these 5 Kalpas are:
1) Samhita-vidhi (or Kausika-Sutra)
2) Vaitana-Sutra
3) Santi-Kalpa
4) Angirasa-Kalpa (unpublished)
5) Nakshatra-Kalpa
